"Solar dos Colaços" - a mansion built in a distinctive European style architecture on the banks of the river Mandovi. Located in Loutolim, this single storeyed castle built in the nineteenth century by Padre Pedrinho and Padre Laurence on the banks of the River Mandovi has been a place of tourist attraction for decades. The mansion provides panoramic views of the islands of Chorao and Divar as well as of the churches of Goa. The mansion is located within the village of Ribandar.Solar dos Colaços provides a distinctive and exotic background for wedding receptions, fashion shows, clandestine parties with a Goan theme and for filming of the Salvador Da Costa castle.

Solar Dos Colacos Mansion is located between Old Goa and Panjim.The construction of this castle began in 1730 by Joao Colaco.Goa was under the Portuguese rule for 450 years. The river Mandovi flows onto the deserted side of the heritage home. Probably this is the only world heritage mansion that is facing the river. The architecture of the castle is Baroque style meaning that it follows the European school of architecture that was followed in the 17th and 18th century.The castle has an impressive appearance and carved scenes onto a side of the dining room depicting incidents from the Ramayana. A confidential chapel is located within the mansion.Goan castles reflect a dozen historical upheavals. But many than anything they reflect the arrival of the Portuguese in 1510 AD and their stay within Goa till 1961.
